Block Watch works! And block watch groups work even better. This site hopes to support Block Watch Captains and give some tools and insights into the how and why of connecting the community through block watches.

The group Greenwood Aurora Involved Neighbors (GAIN) is a group of neighbors that came together in 2005 as block watch captains to bring the blocks together to protect themselves against the so-called "nuisance crimes": graffiti, car prowls, burglaries, drug related crime and Aurora Avenue's claim to fame – pimps and prostitution. The unfortunate label of "nuisance crime" masks the serious problems faced by a large part of the community, and ignored by the city these problems became entrenched leaving people to shrug their shoulders at proposing any solutions – defenseless, until now.

GAIN expanded into Licton Springs, helped form a new GAIN the Highlands in the Bitterlake area and another GAIN North covering all Greenwood, each with similar problems in many ways related to Aurora Avenue. In 2005 the police beat around 85th and Aurora was 3rd in 911 calls (out of a total of 96 city wide). In 2007 it fell out of the top 10 for the first time. Block Watch groups work!
